Our Enrichment Program brings your children field trips and in-school science programs. The second grade in-school field trip program, the TIGER program, and the guests who speak to the 4th and 5th graders about magnets and weather are coordinated and funded by the PTA. We also subsidizes out-of-school field-trips for all grade levels and the many safety programs (RADD Kids, Bicycle Safety, Drug Awareness, etc.) offered by South School.
Our PTA grant program provides resources to Special Education, Occupational Therapy, the Music, Art, and Physical Education Departments, the Library, and to teachers requiring classroom resources not covered by the budget. In short, the South School PTA contributes where the school budget falls short, allowing students access to programs and materials they would otherwise not have.
Although financial support is important, South School PTA also provides a great deal more to South School students and their families. Your PTA publishes the Hawk Talk, the school's monthly newsletter. We build community among South School families by sponsoring Family Fun Nights such as an ice cream social, storytelling, a family dance, and bingo night.
The PTA supports parents by hosting expert guest speakers such as Jack Agati who presents topics such as effective parenting and raising responsible children. We invite groups from the community to speak at PTA meetings. Topics have included car seat safety and financial planning for higher education.
Savings R Us, Wee Deliver, The Reading Incentive Program, Sum+It, Adopt a Family, School Store, the Holiday Shop, Popcorn Sales, Logo Wear, and the Memory Book are all PTA sponsored programs, run by parent volunteers.
As you can see, without our PTA, South School would be a very different place. We invite you to attend a meeting to learn more about us. Please contact Kerri Madigan at 434-9319 for meeting dates and times.
